“Bastard Pink is a fashionable color somewhere between the conventional shades of pink and beige, and is titled ‘bastard’ due to it’s ambiguity of origin. It is a faded, subtle color, similar to dirty pink or dusty rose, but with a hue of it's own. Bastard Pink is a trendy color that has been used in recent collections by fashion designers such as Stella McCartney, Miu Miu, Prada and YSL in recent collections dating 2006 to present.”

The above description is the wikipedia entry that I have submitted. I do hope it doesn’t get deleted again, and the editors find it amusing, fashionable and clever. I take great pride in inventing this word!

Those of you that are familiar with this color, and familiar with my personal style, know that this is definitely a ‘Rita’ color. Bastard pink has found it’s way into my wardrobe regardless of season or trend. I don’t judge or discriminate when to wear it, or what form to acquire it in. It is my one weakness and I am not ashamed to admit that I am obsessed with Bastard Pink in all it’s glorious forms. Inside the depths of my personal closet, there are elements of this color in the shape of dresses, hand bags, belts, shoes, scarves, pants, blouses, t-shirts, yoga pants, sweaters, lingerie, dresses, bathing suits. My poor darling husband (yes Miss Rita is a Mrs, but doesn’t have the same ring to it, now does it? He will be known as Miss Rita’s husband) tries to steer me away from the hypnotic shade with very little success. And he very well knows that gifts in that shade are always received well (like that Dior scarf two years ago).

I do believe that what it comes down to is that every woman (or dandy) may fall into a color spell as long as they can coordinate it with other hues and not drown in it’s saturation. So, work that Moroccan Tea Green, or that Passion Fruit Plum. I happen to be in a Bastard Pink moment, and don’t believe this moment will end.

Here is a bevy of Bastard Pinkness for you to ponder:

Love the color- more sophisticated than pink and a bit more nuanced than sometimes bland beige. I'm afraid it may wash out my fair-medium skin and light brown hair though... The hand bag is beautiful.
