Miss Rita’s Top Trends for Fall/Winter 2008
Parisian Flapper Chic

Perfect for night looks and the upcoming holiday party season,
channeling a 1920’s vibe stands out this season as my top trend
selection. With so much to choose from, it’s a fun way of adding
sparkle to any outfit. Don a sequin cardigan with a basic tank and
denim jeans for a casual look. And when you want to make a real
statement, pair an ornately beaded dress with opaque black
stockings and Mary Jane heels (Alexander McQueen has a pair to lust
for!)
Find a divine off the rack dress at DVF or, if you are feeling
adventurous; vintage stores hold many of these one of a kind
treasures. For the less trend-committed, beaded and feathered
accessories will be your darling this season. Head-wear and hair
accessories are huge. Sparkly headbands are all over Hollywood’s
it-girls right now, and little combs with feathers and beads
netting clip in your hair. YSL has the hair-ban of the season, and
you can even find chic clips at Urban Outfitters.

Mad 4 Plaid

The 1990’s grunge look of plaid has been borrowed from the boys
this season with an array of checker pallets to choose from. Throw
on a plaid Kurt Kobain inspired shirt with a pair of high waist
wide leg trousers for an uptown look. Be sure to work the cinched
belt with this look. Or try a belted plaid trench coat over a black
turtle neck sweater dress for a more classic look. Like a punkish
Burberry.
A high waist plaid print mini-skirt works beautifully with
turtleneck and chunky cable-knit cardigan (that is longer than the
skirt) and tights with ankle booties. Or even incorporate it as
scarves, and tie one around your neck to make a basic monochromatic
outfit punchy. Check out the collections from Michael Kors, Dries
Van Norton and Christian Dior to get your plaid on.

Boho Luxe

Fringes, furs and ruffles. And don’t forget the supple leather and
velvet either. These are the elements that play on the jet-set
hippie looks seen everywhere from Gucci to Cavalli. Un-constructed
shapes layer beautifully, and can be polished with sharp footwear
and embellished belts and jewelry. Think Brigitte Bardot going to
Woodstock and then stopping by L’Orangerie in Paris for dinner.
Glamorous hippie chic at it’s best.

Lacey -Not Racey

Black lace is all over this season. From Coco Chanel inspired
classics in black and white, to feminine Dolce silhouettes to Miu
Miu’s lady like belted looks- lace is a must this season. Forever
sexy, the fabric creates pretty peak-a-boo’s to skin wherever it
caresses. Pair a black lace turtleneck with a cropped black blazer
and straight leg jeans and high boots to channel a Victorian
rock'n’roll edge. And don’t forget the long layered necklaces-
think pearls or gold chains. This is one trend that you don’t want
to pass with this season. Choose black, and it will work with
everything. White or cream will work next season in Spring and
Summer, so you will get longevity.
